When a customer orders lawn signs they often seek our recommendation of how many they should get.
Our answer varies depending on what the lawn signs are being used for, the customers budget, what size and type of lawn signs they are interested in etc,.
While it’s difficult to provide a specific answer here without knowing these variables, we’ll try and give you a general idea for the most common uses of lawn signs.
HOW MANY BUSINESS LAWN SIGNS SHOULD YOU ORDER?
This is probably the hardest category to quantify because the variables have such a large spectrum.
- What type of service are you advertising?
- What is the geographical market for your budget?
- Are they being used to promote a short term or annual sale?
- Would you consider the less expensive polybag signs instead of traditional coroplast signs?
These are some of the questions we might ask a customer when they’re ordering yard signs to advertise their business.
Let’s look at a few examples.
A landscape company targeting residents of a certain section of town may need a few dozen lawn signs depending on how large the area is that they’re looking to cover.
A retail store looking to advertise a sale may only need 12 or so to place around their immediate neighborhood.
A contractor who wants to significantly grow awareness of their company throughout a city may want to order a couple hundred.

HOW MANY ELECTION LAWN SIGNS DO YOU NEED?
This category is a bit easier to quantify since there are formulas to help determine how many lawn signs a political campaign will need for a municipal, provincial or federal election.
- Simple calculation: 1 lawn sign per 30 registered voters
- Detailed calculation: Population multiplied by expected turnout % multiplied by vote goal % divided by name recognition per lawn sign (6-10).

HOW MANY REAL ESTATE LAWN SIGNS DO YOU NEED?
This heavily depends on the volume of listings you’re expecting to take on.
If you’re a new realtor, 1-2 may be all you need to start while the business is getting off the ground. However if you’re a busier veteran real estate agent it may be smart to have a dozen or more on hand to make sure you have enough to cover the potential demand.
In general, it’s better to have more than you might need then not enough. The last thing you want is to get a new listing and not have a sign ready to go up immediately.
If you’re a home owner looking to spread the word that your house is for sale, 1 is usually enough for most lawn sizes.
HOW MANY CELEBRATION LAWN SIGNS DO YOU NEED?
This is the easiest category of lawn signs to quantify. Often in the case of birthday lawn signs or lawn signs for graduation, the answer is usually 1 or 2.
Assuming the lawn sign is only needed for a short time to mark an occasion there’s rarely a need to get too many because it’s probably not a sign you’re looking to display in many places.
